Welcome To Montessori Fountainhead School

Montessori Fountainhead School is located in a beautifully renovated historic building in the heart of downtown Charleston, SC. Our dedicated (ages 2.5 to 6) and (age 6 to 12) programs are presented in a home-like environment, where children - even those who have never been away from their parents - thrive, academically and socially.

Established and operated since 1984 by Nana Fox, Montessori Fountainhead School has provided classical Montessori education to generations of Lowcountry children. In addition to maintaining academic excellence, we instill in our students self-confidence, a life-long love of learning, and the ability to solve problems by thinking effectively.

Classes are kept small, so children benefit from highly individualized instruction, a variety of engaging enrichment activities, and the only daily Russian-language instruction program in the region.

The Montessori Difference

The success of "Montessori children," such as the , has focused a lot of attention on Dr. Maria Montessori's system.

However, not all Montessori schools are the same.

In a classical Montessori environment such as ours, children naturally and joyfully reach their full potential. Rather than being forced to follow a set curriculum, they learn at their own pace, according to their choice of activities.

At Montessori Fountainhead, children are not bored, because they are free to delve as deeply as they wish into any subject that interests them. Likewise, they are not frustrated, because they are free to take as much time as necessary to master each lesson. This is the exact opposite of traditional education, and the results - happy, well-adjusted children, consistently performing at high academic levels - speak for themselves.

Here, we do not "teach to the test." In fact, there are no tests. Our focus is solely on the well-being and positive development of each child. Therefore, although all the children learn all the lessons, each one does so in the order and on the schedule that is uniquely suited to him or her.

As a private school, we are accountable to parents, not administrators. This allows us truly to "follow the child," just as Dr. Montessori instructed. Our teachers are fully dedicated to the time-proven methods of classical Montessori education, and truly committed to the students we serve.
